Every year on April 22, the world unites to observe World Earth Day —a day to celebrate our planet and recommit to protecting its precious ecosystems. This year's theme, "Planet vs. Plastics," focuses on eliminating plastic pollution to safeguard both terrestrial and aquatic life. At Child Help Foundation (CHF), this mission is not just a one-day celebration but an ongoing commitment through our initiatives aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically Life Below Water (SDG 14) and Life on Land (SDG 15).
Life Below Water – Supporting 2,109,612 Beneficiaries
Water is life, and our oceans are vital to Earth’s health. CHF’s Life Below Water program has touched the lives of 2,109,612 beneficiaries by conducting activities that protect marine biodiversity, educate coastal communities, and reduce water pollution. Through beach clean-up drives, we actively work towards preserving marine ecosystems.
One of our most impactful initiatives has been plastic waste reduction along India’s coastal belts. Volunteers, students, and community members have participated in cleaning tons of plastic waste from beaches and riverbanks, thereby preventing it from entering the ocean. Additionally, CHF has distributed eco-friendly alternatives such as cloth bags and reusable containers to coastal communities, encouraging a shift away from single-use plastics.
Life on Land – Empowering 67,200 BeneficiariesThe richness of life on Earth is also rooted in its forests, mountains, and soil. CHF’s Life on Land initiative has supported 67,200 beneficiaries through extensive environmental programs aimed at reforestation, animal conservation, and eco-education.
A shining example is our collaboration with local schools and village councils, where children and villagers plant native trees. These programs not only restore green cover but also instil a sense of responsibility and ownership among participants. From Odisha to Maharashtra, CHF has mobilized youth to build a greener, more resilient future.
Earth Day Is Every Day at CHFFor CHF, Earth Day is not just an event—it’s a philosophy woven into our projects and outreach. We firmly believe that protecting Earth requires grassroots action, community involvement, and long-term education. By aligning with the global call to action, our Life Below Water and Life on Land programs serve as a testament to what is possible when compassion meets action.
This Earth Day, let us reflect on our choices and remember that small actions—like reducing plastic use, planting a tree, or educating a child—can create waves of change. Let us pledge to care for our planet not just for today, but for generations to come.
Join Child Help Foundation in its mission to make Earth a healthier place for not just humans, but for all living things.
